MORE than 130 runners ignored the horrendous weekend weather to take part in the 54th IW Marathon on Sunday.

The course is regarded as one of the toughest in the UK thanks to its hills and its killer final climb up Beaper Shute.

But taking it all in his stride was Steyning Runners member James Walker, of West Sussex.

Despite a leg strain he was the comfortable winner, finishing in a time of 2.53.21.

The first Islander home was Will Ambrosini, of Ryde Harriers, who came fourth overall in a time of 3.01.48.
