Chichester Lake Swim 2017

Once again had a beautiful sunny start to the day and perfect conditions for an open water event. The event is set in the stunning Westhampnett Lake where there was a choice of either a full Ironman distance or half Ironman distance swim.

This event is perfect for experienced open water swimmers that would like to try a new event in the area, but alike, to novice open water swimmers who would like to try and complete their first open water full or half distance swim in the comfort of a lake, before taking to a river or the sea.

A full safety team of kayaks and safety boat were provided and were out on the water at all times. It was a great venue for participants and spectators and had full use of the facilities with changing rooms, showers and cafe.

Two of Steyning members took part in the race Graham Parsons in the half distance and Lydia Jordan in the full distance. The distance’s were 1.9km and 3.8km the more experienced swimmers all seem to feel that both these distances were in actual fact longer. A few athletes that had GPS watches had the distances at either 2.4/2.5km for the half and 5km for full. The event organisers did say the night before had been a bit windy and the buoys had probably moved. Never mind though it meant we got a longer swim in 😊.

Graham Parsons 39:49 Overall 13th of 52, Male 8th 27, Age group male 50+ 2nd of 12.

Lydia Jordan 1:17:24 Overall 11th of 65, Female 5th of 27, Age group 19-49yrs 3rd of 19.

This event is highly recommend and is run by Tribal Sports Events they design and deliver a number of multi-sport races for all age groups across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. They offer triathlons, Aquathlons, Duathlons, Trail runs, Open water swims, Adventure races and Cycle Sportives.
