Today we rode Dave Hudson’s Spordax 100 km from Petworth, (we made it 65 miles) and our recorded time was 5 hrs 32 m. We had route cards to follow, but no signs and certainly no rescue services.
Dave’s generous hospitality entailed signing on at Petworth car park, with tea/coffee and biscuits, riding through Pulborough and Adversane and back to Petworth to Hampers Green Community Centre for hot chicken tikka, savoury tartlets, sandwiches, strawberries and cakes.
On again through Singleton and Cocking – such glorious scenery and back to the Centre. This time beans on toast, peaches and rice pud and cake.
The final stage was through Lurgashall, and Henley. The instructions were Very low gear or Walkies ! What a hill that was !!
El Supremo was still serving hot drinks and cakes at the end.
To ensure no-one short cuts, there were Info Controls at various places, where we had to notice and record names of pubs/farm shops etc.
So now you know why we took 5 hr 32m ! Mainly eating, looking for Info and walking up hills. But it was a glorious day in great company.
