Well, it went down to the wire, and was a bit of a thriller!
The results from yesterday are still provisional, but barring any last minute challenges from Portslade Hedgehoppers, we just held them off yesterday! We were 1 point ahead going into the race, and we extended this by 2 further points yesterday. Very close.
So that means – presuming the results stay the same – we have held on to 3rd place in the league; and therefore reached our goal for the season, which is a fantastic result.
We were 7th in 2011 – so this represents a huge improvement: so well done all!
I was so impressed by the amazing response to my post and email from Saturday evening. A fantastic 7 runners came forward at the last minute – the magnificent seven! So well done – Antony Bishop, Shane Bridgman, Roj Beaumont, Geoff Claridge, Amanda Oxley, Ruth Saunders, Jamie Langlands. Fantastic effort. And as you can see – every point was vital. If I have forgotten anyone esle who turned up on the day – many apologies (it was all quite hectic for me). …. There were some huge performances from people yesterday! Well done our 10 and 9 pointers – Ewan, Antony, Adrian Scott, Lee, Joan, Amanda and Ruth superb performances.
A big thank you to everyone who ran yesterday, and everyone who has represented SAC this season.
Another special mention for yesterday has to go to those who raced on Saturday afternoon in the XC League, and then again yesterday morning – what an effort! I think that this was Ewan, Ruth and Joan; but apologies again if I missed anyone. And you all scored big big points yesterday.
So well done all!
Let’s try to match our result from this year in 2013 – or maybe even aim for 2nd place?!?! I know we are all very busy and have lots on, but please do try to do as many races as you can next year. I know that there will be quite a few races that I myself cannot do unfortunately, but if we all try to weigh in with doing as many as we realistically can, then hopefully we can do well again. There is a great atmosphere at the races, especially when we get a big turn out.
2 other things:
1. Linda, Ruth, Mike and Malcolm have asked me to remind people about our uncoached training session at 7pm every Tuesday from the Clubhouse. This is a valuable opportunity to train with others and put in a solid 5 miles or so at a good pace. Unfortuantely, I am not able to make Tuesday evenings, but it would be great to try to pick up the numbers again. Please talk to Linda Norman, Ruth Saunders, Mike Miller or Malcolm Hales for further information or inspiration! The four of them try to go every week, and there are a few other semi-regulars, but it would be good to get more along!
2. The fantastic Duck Pond Waddle (normally first Sunday in December) is being replaced this year by the – what will surely become the even-more-fantastic – Downland Devil! 9 miles from Coombes Farm – this is so local for all of us. Sunday 2nd December – it would be brilliant if we could get a good turn-out. See WSFRL webiste or Sussex Races website for more details.
