Tonight, Monday 20th August, saw the eighth summer series event for 2012 taking place at Southwater Lake. This comprised one lap of the lake (500m swim) followed by 2 laps of the Country Park (approx 3.5-4 K in total). The swim was complicated by the fact that there was a flock (if that is the correct collective noun for a lot) of swans waiting at the far end of the lake to test the mettle of the swimmers. James managed to get past them without having to climb out on the bank this time. Adrian and Jon spent a while crashing into each other repeatedly on the way back down the lake, each one claiming it was the other one’s fault. Jon prevailed in the swim but Adrian got the upper hand on the run.
Simon Turk was first to exit the water, followed hot on his heels by Graham who did a great swim. James was next out and sped past Graham in transition, and then past Simon on the first lap of the park (cheered on by his support team of three – Karen, Tilly and Gertie). Everyone else made it into transition safely but the Lee family excelled themselves by having the speediest transitions, by quite a long way. It must be in the genes and Chris was the winner with Amicia only 1 second behind. I think we all need to get some stripping tips from them. Mark, our newest openwater recruit made it safely round the swim and began to make up time on the run but needed a few more laps to make a real impact.
Alison, Amicia and Lisa all went slightly wrong on the run as someone had moved one of the directional arrows we put out, so they did a slightly longer route but I consider that all to be good training. Lisa and Amicia battled it out for first and second in the ladies race as Alison called it a day after one lap.
Thank you to Carol, Martin, Frank and Jan for helping in various ways, to Jon for helping with setting out the course and the buoys, and to everyone who took part. Without you there would be no summer series. Well done to all and congrats to James the overall winner. Results are attached. SAC Aquathlon results
