Report from the Ladies Team and pictures of all three SAC Teams.
Another very hot relay, possibly even hotter than 2010 but with a stiff breeze that never quite seemed to be behind you! The ladies team of Amanda, Sue, Jo, Camilla, Tracey and Ruth ran like clockwork. This year was mostly about finishing what with post marathon blues, hip injuries and general running fatigue all round. Ruth gets a special mention as it was her first year and she ran a stunning time for Leg 6 and very good times for all her legs – certainly could be the most improved runner this year!
The winning ladies team was Chichester Runners in 12 hrs 50 mins with Hailsham in second place in 13 hrs 11 mins. Steyning Ladies had a head to head battle with Liss Runners managing to overtake them in the last leg to take third place. Controversy struck on Leg 1 when several teams managed to take the wrong route to receive a 10 minutes time penalty, Liss Runners included. Amanda gallantly agreed to do Leg 1 not really knowing what she was letting herself in for (apparently there are one or two hills in it) but came through in good time and, more importantly, on the right route. Jo Hesketh gets the medal of the day for sacrificing 5 minutes on leg 13 to help a collapsed runner!
The overall finishing time for Steyning was 13 hour 25 minutes, only 10 minutes a drift from our estimated time but who’s counting…
Thank you to Gary and Martin for driving the Ladies team so efficiently and getting us home before midnight.
Well done all.
Thanks to John Killick and MFD for the pictures.
