This year’s road relay championships at Christ’s Hospital are being held on Saturday 7th April. If you are interested in running do please contact me and I can provide further info, and will coordinate entries for the teams. The deadline for getting entries in is 30th March 2012.

Update on Kit

As you may know that I am dealing with arranging new kit including the Trisuits. Well it has been an interesting task putting it polite…. Before Christmas I brought in various size trisuits for you to try on and took the names of those that wanted one. Well from the comments I received back and my own gut feel, I had to pull the plug on that specific suit as the fit and quality was not up to par to what is expected. Since then I have spoken to another firm which has got awards from various tri mags on their suits (zone 3). The suit is a LOT better quality and costs less (£60 rather than £65). I will bring in samples of the unisex suits to Circuits / Swimming this Wednesday (22nd Feb) and swimming on 25th Feb. Then FINALLY place the order next week and move forward!

On the running vests and fleeces I am nearly there regarding placing orders (internal politics..). I will keep you posted on the kit and sorry for the LOOOOOONG delay.

Does anyone want a SWIMMER’S SNORKEL (free)?

Dear Swimmers

Back in the Summer, when I was doing a lot of swimming I bought a “Finis Swimmer’s Snorkel (‘Centre Mount Technique and Training Snorkel)”.

I bought it for doing drills.

I only used it the once, and didn’t get on with it at all (it’s not a problem with the particular make of snorkel – it’s just that I’d never used a snorkel, and I just don’t like the sensation).

Anyone, it is in almost perfect condition, having only used it once…… It seems a shame to be going to waste, so if anyone wants it (for free) for drills practice, they are very welcome to it.

Just email me and let me know, and then I can leave it at the club-house for you to pick up.

Steyning Showcase – Saturday 25 February

We will be publicising Steyning AC to the local community by running a stand at the Steyning Showcase event this coming Saturday. The event is being held at the Steyning Centre from 10am until 4pm and is being supported by many local clubs and activity groups - we are very pleased to be part of it again this year. Not only do we encourage you to come along and have at look at all that Steyning has to offer, but we would also appreciate it if any members can do a short stint on our stand during the day to help showcase the club. If you can spare an hour, please email me at martinhesketh@btinternet.com with an indication of the time of the day you can help.

Foxes Five Race – 11th March (and a note about Valentine’s)

Dear All

Just to reassure you – none of you, who had your name down for the Valentine’s race, are being charged the £2 entry fee…… Steyning Athletic Club has kindly agreed to pay the entry fees (actually it is £1.50 per every runner entered, as Horsham Joggers decided to give 50p off each entry in light of it being cancelled).

Okay – so the next race up is the Soutwick Strollers “Foxes Five”at 11am on Sunday 11th March…. This is 5 miles up and down the river from near Ropetackle in Shoreham. Nice late start; very local race – so we should be able to get out comfortably 25+ runners no problems!

Please please do consider doing this race! If you are concered about not getting in enough miles for your training regime, then this is a perfect race to run to from Steyning……. It’s a really nice off-road course along the riverbank.

I need to email entries on the evening of Thursday 8th March – but please let me know as soon as possible if you can run it! So far we have confirmed Lee, Dave Tibballs, Jon Mason and myself.

You can collect vouchers from Sainsbury’s stores and garages from now until 10th April. Please consider donating some of your vouchers to Steyning Stormers. We were very pleased with the equipment we received last year.
There is a collection box in the club and there will also be one available for parents on Tuesday evening training nights. Thank you in anticipation of your support.

VALENTINE’S RUN CANCELLED!

Hi All,

It is with great regret that I have to inform you that the Valentine’s Run with be cancelled this year (12th February 2012).

We have been keeping a close eye on the course and on inspection this morning it is clear that there are too many icy patches to allow the run to go ahead and ensure the safety of the runners.

We have looked at all viable alternative routes but there are none that are suitable, either because of ice or road safety issues.

We have also tried to find an alternative date to hold the race but with other commitments there are no dates in the near future.

As most of you will be aware, the costs involved in holding a successful running event are considerable and we will be unable to refund the whole entry fee.

However, it is not our club’s intention to make a profit from these circumstances and Horsham Joggers is willing to refund 50p per entry. This cannot happen until all clubs that have paid their due entry fees, at £1.50 per entry.

This refund will only be done by bank transfer, we will not offer cheques or cash refunds.

To enable us to issue this refund please email your bank details (sort code and bank account name and number) and the total number of club runners you are claiming for, to: horshamjoggers@googlemail.com.

Your club has not yet paid the entry fee. I regret that I must ask for these to be paid but as mentioned above at the reduced rate of £1.50 per entrant. I trust you understand our position.

Race numbers for Valentine’s

Dear Valentine’s Runners.

So we have 23 runners entered. Just 2 short. Not bad. Thank you to all those runners who have come forward quite late on! Your reward will be a good fun race (I wonder whether the mud will be frozen or not?) and hopefully big points! We have some very strong runners coming out, so we should score highly which is great as we are now SECOND in the league behind Worthing Harriers.

Anyway, race numbers from Southwater Village Hall. Please come in good time for this race. Please remember it is about 5 mintues from the car park to the village hall (there is a big car park which we can use which will be clearly signposted). And then it is 5 minutes walk from the hall to the start of the race.

So, as ever, please come no later (to the village hall) than 15 minutues before the race (so 9.45 as the race is at 10am). At 9.50 we will leave the numbers at the ‘late entry’ desk.

Mike Miller has very kindly agreed to get there for around 9.15 to pick up our numbers (I will be coming a little later), so please do look out for him.
