Two SAC athletes finished the Sussex Triathlon Races at Ashburnham Place, nr Battle this weekend, despite the run leg resembling a winter cross country race rather than a summer triathlon!
Lydia Jordan showed great sense and style, competing in the Sprint distance and finishing an excellent 13th female, second in her age group.
Sue F-D however showed no sense at all, competing in the Middle distance (1/2 ironman) event.
We had been warned that the cycle would not be flat, however had not quite expected the continual steep climbs followed by equally steep and twisting descents followed immediately by the next climb. Add in bucket loads of rain and you understand why tri bars were completely unused.
The run was meant to take place on gravel paths through the beautiful grounds of Ashburnham – unfortunately the recent torrential rainfall had swept several inches of mud onto the paths leaving the run route resembling this year’s stinger course (oh yes, including a particularly nasty `sting` on each lap).
Won’t be doing another unless I find one in Holland…..
