A reminder that SAC has an hour pooltime booked on Sunday evening from 19.30-20.30. This is open to anyone, and is reasonably free format. There are coaches there – if you want advice, or just do your own thing. £3.00 per swim (optional 60p for homemade goodies supplied by Sarah!).

Southwater lake is (hopefully) now warm enough to swim in. We shall be there on Monday – 18.00 to 19.30. £10 per person per year. You need a wetsuit and a yellow hat (I’ll bring a supply of hats). If the weather is good I’ll be cycling up – leaving shortly after 17.00. Let me know if you want to cycle with us.

There is no circuits on either 4th & 11th April.

Normal service will be resumed from Weds 18th onwards.

This was a team multi sport race, with Shane Bridgman, Simon Turk and Gary Brind representing Steyning AC (only teams of 3 can enter – no solo racers…), where you all have to stay together for the whole event.

The race was at Longmoor Army base and at the start you don’t know the race format but just knew it was a XC 10k run, up to 25km mtb and 1k kayak, then a slippery 8 foot wall at the end. 151 teams started, the format ended up being a 2.5km run, 10km mtb, 5km run, “1km” (it was shorter..) 3 person Kayak, 2.5km run, 10k mtb then to finish a tiny assault course. After the first run and bike, we climbed to 3rd overall, then were in battle with the Armys team and another team, they overtook us on the run, but we pulled them back on the bike. Going into the final leg we were the 2nd ranked male team. Just as we started the dam assault course, there was a really annoying stupid wooden plank task (did not know we had to do it until we got there), where all 3 of us had to walk in sync on 2 pieces of wood. Could we do it fast ? NO, and kept falling over like a 1 year old kid… 2 teams passed us and we eventually came in 4th male team overall.

Had to have a laugh after about this final task, that cost us a really good position, but still had a lot of fun….

PS : If Gary Priddis had not forced Simon Turk and Gary Brind to do the swimming gala during the morning on Saturday and drained our energy levels, we would have won it of course !!! ;o)

Just a reminder that the club has booked the leisure centre swimming pool for an hour every Sunday evening (19.30-20.30). This session is open to all members. Either come and do your own thing, or ask one of the coaches if you want a swim set to work through.

Cost – £3.00 for adults, £2.00 for juniors.

Our new club structure is generating some great ideas from the activity groups. A recent idea was to ‘recycle’ any sports-related books that may be gathering dust at home and create a small ‘library’ in the club HQ so that other members can benefit from them. These should be books that will help develop members’ knowledge about training or competition in events that the club participates in.

The committee supports this idea and I have started the ball rolling by placing a few books on the windowsill directly opposite the main entrance to the club, which is the space we decided to allocate for the library. I will also place a notebook on the windowsill so that anyone taking any of the books away can make a note of who has taken it & when -  it is worth pointing out that these should be books that the donating club member(s) definitely do not want as it is likely that some may not come back!

Please can you have a think about any sports books, coaching manuals or the like that you may have laying around & just bring them up to the club to add to the library so we can grow it over time.

Thanks all…………….Martin
