Last Saturday saw the running of the Bexhill cross country race, postponed from the previous week due to the snow. It was the third in a series of four races that form the Brooks Cross Country League.

We have women’s and men’s teams competing in the senior divisions for the second year. The course on Saturday was a mud bath and 15mm spikes were essential kit.

However, Steyning runners must like the mud as both teams recorded their best results of the season so far. The women were third team and stay third overall, only 5 points behind Crawley in second place. The women runners (and their places) were Camilla Neale (6th), Amanda Oxley (17th), Moyra Amess (24th), Joan Lennon (26th) and Tracey O’Brien (28th). The men’s team were second team in their division for the race and remain fifth after the three races. The male runners were John Moores (26th), Simon James (34th), Antony Bishop (36th), Lee Oxley (65th), Neil Sampson (94th) and Jon Brook (95th).

For anyone who wants to run the last race of the series, it’s on Saturday, February 20th at Lancing Manor.
