JUNIOR FUN RUN LEAGUE
First of all, well done to everyone who has competed in the Junior Fun Run League events so far. At present we are lying in 4th position in the league, but not many points behind the 2nd and 3rd teams. Hopefully many of you will be able to compete in the last few junior races this year, and maybe we can finish higher in the league! This would be fantastic in our first real season in this league!
Details of the last 4 events:- Sat. September 18th at 4.15pm – 1 mile – Henfield Leisure Centre.
Sunday 10th October at 10.45am – 2.5k at Hickstead Showground.
Sunday 17th October at 10.30am – 1 mile at Lancing Manor Leisure Centre.
Sunday 7th November at 10.15am – 1 mile at Adur Outdoor Centre, Shoreham.
All the above events cost 50p to enter if you book in advance with one of the coaches, or you can enter on the day for £1. All the results so far are displayed on our notice board.
RINGMER TRIATHLON
The Stormers were represented at the Ringmer Kids Triathlon, on a wet weekend in August, by Lois Claridge and Alice Amess. This event involved a swim, bike and run. Lois finished in 24th place in 9m 57secs and Alice was 27th in 10m 34 secs. Well done to both in difficult conditions.
SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS IS BACK!
Do you want to get a Gold certificate this year! Turn up for Sportshall events in jumping, throwing and running, at the Primary School hall on certain Tuesdays and Thursdays between 7-8pm.
Tuesdays – 14th September ; 12th October ; 16th November ; 14th December.
Thursdays – 23rd September ; 28th October ; 25th November.
TRAINING NIGHTS
On Thursdays between 7and 8 pm from 9th September, we will meet at the Primary School hall until the end of November. All Thursdays in December we will meet at the SAC clubhouse in Charlton Street. Everyone turning up will be divided into groups to do an activity with one of the coaches.
We welcome Nigel McAllister and Liz Claridge onto our coaching team following their successful completion of coaching courses. The other coaches in our team are Roger Flynn, Sue Weekes, Malcolm Geal and Sarah Warren.
PARENTAL HELPERS REQUIRED
Due to the large number of children now attending the Athletic club sessions, and to avoid having to turn away any future prospective athletes, we would be grateful if parents could volunteer to help out on a rota basis on Thursday evenings.
If you are willing to give up some time to help the youngsters, please give your name to one of the coaches when you drop off your child, and we will organise a rota system.
THANK YOU!
TRAINING CLOTHING
Please remember to come training in suitable clothing for exercising. Trainers, tracksuit, shorts and T-shirt plus gloves, hat and warmer top as the weather gets colder. It is advisable to have either a white or fluorescent top so you can be seen on the dark evenings.
We do have a number of club vests available for the children who wish to compete for the club in various events. If you would like one, please see Liz Claridge.
BEHAVIOUR
Although we want everyone to enjoy their athletics, we also need them to pay attention to what is being explained to them, and to show some respect to the coaches who have given up their precious time to train them in various athletic skills.
Give something back to your coaches by listening to and obeying instructions, then the whole group will work better together and in a safer environment.
Athletics should be hard work, interesting, self-motivating and above all – FUN!
Your coaches.
